◊ This control panel is distributed as Shareware: if you like it or use it please honor the shareware system by sending $5 to the author at the address above. Since collecting international cheques is very expensive, please send cash only. If you MUST send a cheque, keep in mind that the banks will gobble up more than half of it.
◊ NOTE: Getting some (usually very few) bucks is what you write shareware for, but getting a note, a postcard or anything else is a lot better than getting nothing. I'd like to know how far this program has gone, so remember that you can do something nice even if you don't have a couple of $$$ to spare.
• WHAT IS IT?
◊ DragAnyWindow is a control panel that allows you to easily move any kind of window, including dialogs, alerts, standard "Open" and "Save" dialogs, game windows and other non-movable windows. Versions 1.1 and later also let you bring back to the desktop any window that has gone out of sight.
◊ This control panel is very useful for old applications designed for the 9" screen (which often use fixed windows); it is also very handy for moving modal dialogs or any windows behind them.
◊ DragAnyWindow only takes about 2K of system memory and 15K of disk space.
• HOW TO DRAG ANY WINDOW
◊ Drop DragAnyWindow in your Control Panels folder (System 7) or System folder (System 6) and restart your Macintosh.
◊ Open the control panel and use it to configure your modifier key combinations.
◊ When you want to move a window, click on any part of the window while holding down the modifier keys (such as Command or Option) that were selected in the control panel. Note that dragging requires the Command key to be down, so the control panel won't let you disable it.
◊ When you want to bring an invisible window back to the desktop, click anywhere while holding down the chosen modifier keys: the frontmost window will be immediately moved to the current mouse location. You will then be able to drag it somewhere else. If there are other windows in front of the invisible one you won't be able to move it, so try closing them before.
• VERSION HISTORY
◊ 2.0 - This one has been completely rewritten and uses a different method to work its magic. The Finder and the modal dialogs can no longer see your mouse click if it was intended to move a window. Note: version 1.1 could cause system crashes with ID=28 because one of the basic system routines I was using sometimes went into a recursive loop when switching from one application to another.
◊ 1.1 - DragAnyWindow can now bring disappeared windows back to the desktop; the key combinations may be configured in the control panel.
◊ 1.01 - Added support for system 7 default items calls.
◊ 1.0 - First public release on 3"1/2 Mac Disk Magazine.
